Theorycrafting Drupal Deployment Via Bittorrent 09 Jun 2013

There was an article floating around a few weeks ago about deploying large scale applications to multiple servers through bittorrent. I remember being at a talk by a Facebook developer who mentioned they did the same. I figured I’d put some thought into how it could be done at a practical level for Drupal sites. Tools Needed: Jenkins - http://jenkins-ci.org/ mktorrent - http://mktorrent.sourceforge.net/ rtorrent/libtorrent - http://libtorrent.rakshasa.no/ ocelot/gazelle - https://what.cd/gazelle/ Jenkins Jenkins can be used to tie all the separate tools together. mktorrent A cli tool to build .torrent files which can be pushed off to remote servers. This can integrate...

Better and Smarter Notifications 27 May 2013

I’m sat in my living room in front of my PC, I have my Nexus phone to the right of me just next to my mouse and my Nexus 7 is sat on table behind me. When I get tagged in a Google Plus post I get notified 5 times. My PC shows that I have a new email from G+ My phone notification goes off twice, once for G+ app and another for email My tablet notification goes off twice, once for G+ app and another for email OK so this sounds very much like first world problems, hell...

Watching From the Outside In 26 May 2013

A few years ago I adminned a large IRC channel for indie music, during my time as OP I meet a guy called Garrett (film42) we started chatting over our like for indie music and technology. Over the years we kept on chatting and our focus moved away from music and further into technology. We both have a love for computers and internet technology. From the start of our friendship I knew there was something special about him, he’s driven more driven than most people of that age are. Over the past year it’s been really interesting listening to him...

An update to DrupalCamp 2013 20 Apr 2013

There’s no easy way to put this but as of this post I’m withdrawing from organising DrupalCamp NW 2013. A lot of things have changed over the past 4 months some good some not so. I intend to spend as much time with my friends and family and avoid the stress of organising the event. Where does this leave the event? Pretty much in the same place as it was a few months ago, I’d love for more people to step up and take charge of the event. Nothing would make me happier than attending DCNW 2013 as an attendee...

Webinar is a dirty word 17 Apr 2013

As a developer it’s in my best interest to keep up to date with the current technologies and techniques industry leaders are using. Over the past few years I’ve been signed up to many lists from companies that provide webinars. Every so often one crosses my increasingly unmanageable inbox that peaks my interest. At first I was all wide eyed and eager looking to see what these so called “experts” (a word that no longer has the correct meaning) had to say on the given subject matter. Now not so much. Webinars have become a bit of a joke for...
