Insert something really interesting about my homelab to make it seem like I spend loads of time on it.

Backups
#

Work continues on building up my backups to a place where I’m really happy with it. Immich is done but needs properly testing. ForgeJo on remotelab.uk is sort of done but needs re-working and testing. My parents proxmox backups aren’t working and I haven’t even bothered to look into why yet - I should do that asap. Talking of Proxmox backups I should look at sending the backup off to Backblaze B2 so at least they’re external as well.

Proxmox Upgrade
#

I updated my Proxmox server to 9 a few days ago. It went really well. I’m always super impressed at just how good their docs are and how easy the process is. I need to do my parents setup at some point, I might leave it till I go over in person.

ForgeJo Terraform Provider
#

I’ve been working on the ForgeJo Terraform provider in my spare time because I think it’s a great project and I’m going to move all my repos into it once I’ve come up with a better structure. Currently my repos live in two places, my main user and an infrastructure organisation. It works for the most part but I’d like to split things up a bit more and sort out how I manage secrets properly (it’s secure but it’s a mess).

Hetzner ARM servers
#

I’ve been tooting about this a bit more recently, Hetzner have completely run out of ARM servers in most of their data centres which means I’m stuck waiting until one becomes available. The plan is to move my OSA avoiding VPN from Helsinki to Germany, create another set of runners for ForgeJo and finally migrate remotelab.uk Mastodon instance to it.

Coffee here and gone
#

I created a new coffee section on this site but I didn’t like it so removed it. I’m really starting to get annoyed with my blogging workflow at the moment. I really miss having a CMS or CMS like features. Dare I even say it I miss having the flexibility of something like Drupal.

Server Cleaning
#

Earlier this month I powered down my main server and gave it a quick blast with some canned air. It was surprisingly ok but it was a good thing I did since the hot weather has increased operating temp by about 5c on average. I think there was a firmware update at some point which has messed with the fan speeds so they’re all over the place at the moment - I should probably look into this a bit more, just in case!

That’s it for this month I think, sorry it’s not been as “homelab” focussed.
