For as long as I can remember I’ve hated my body it’s a mess. I used to be quite fit before I started remote working (walking 5 miles a day does that) but it all fell apart and then COVID hit and I just never really recovered.
It’s been a slow rot, a lot of my mental and physical health issues are caused by being overweight.
But Mike you have a gym membership! Yes I do and I’ve never used it, I physically can’t. The thought of everyone laughing at me while I attempt to do some form of exercise is my own personal hell. Years ago I started running, I stopped after two people laughed at me when I passed them, it broke my heart. I was really getting into running and to the point where I was enjoying it.
So where do we go form here, I can either let the rot continue and eventually die of a massive heart attack or start to do something about it.
My first step was to start eating breakfast. I’ve been having porridge or muesli mostly every day for a while now. It’s brought my cholesterol down by a significant amount cutting my risk of a heart attack and stroke down. But the downside is it’s all extra calories so my weight has increased by a bit.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not inactive, I try and do between 6k and 10k steps a day!
Next step is to lose weight with medical assistance. There are 2 main options hear in the UK Orlistat or GLP-1 tablets/injections. The idea of oily shits for a few years doesn’t fill me we hope so the first option is out. So it’s the GLP-1 route.
Holy shit it’s expensive for the injection, but the pill is now available which is much cheaper per month (starts at £99). So that’s what I’m doing one pill every day and we’ll see how it goes. Problem is I haven’t actually got them yet, I’ve paid for them but Boots haven’t notified me they’re available for pick up. My guess at the moment is that everyone on the injection is switching over to the pill causing a backlog, this does make me worried about the future availability of it.
EDIT: It’s arrived but the pharmacy will be closed by the time I get there so will have to pick it up tomorrow.
I’m pretty nervous about the whole thing but hopefully all goes well and I can see a change which will hopefully fix my mental image and allow me to lead a healthier life.
I’m not sure if I’ll blog much more about it or keep it to Mastodon. Not sure if people are interested!
